hyperreality
Hyperreality is an idea developed by French sociologist Jean Baudrillard.
Baudrillard used the term hyperreality to refer to "A condition in which,
because of the compression of perceptions of reality in culture and media,
what is generally regarded as real and what is understood as fiction are
seamlessly blended together in experiences so that there is no longer any
clear distinction between where one ends and the other begins."
That quote above isn't a Baudrillard quote—it's a quote from the Wikipedia
page for hyperreality. It's somewhat hard to comprehend though, so here is
a more understandable summary from Google's generally dogshit but
occasionally ok AI results feature: "(hyperreality is) a condition in which
the distinction between reality and its simulation becomes so blurred that
the simulation is perceived as more real than the real thing."
